I'll back up what Robert has said here, regarding both the feedback from his courses and in the availability of excellent RE training world-wide. I've spoken to and corresponded with many who have experienced such training (including from presenters who are members of this list). [I also give occasional courses for Robert's company (Project Performance Australia/International) but not directly in RE.]

As in any field there are poor courses and poor texts. It's possible that the RE has a bit more than its quota however, given the phenomenon mentioned earlier that any experienced engineer or engineering academic is an automatic expert on requirements.

Potential trainees should ensure that the course presenter has extensive *practical* experience of RE (in real projects, large and small) - it doesn't guarantee a good course, but it's an essential prerequisite. As Robert implies, many of the alternatives are based more on theory than practice, and this is a field where the theory needs a great deal of mature interpretation to be applied in practice.
