Yep, it's a personal view, and no of course not, Scotto. I certainly wasn't aiming it at anyone here, AFAIK, or at any particular people.

I guess I get more exposure to this than some others by refereeing papers for conferences, etc. (as do many others on this list), which means I see the non-survivors as well as the survivors. But a few of the survivors aren't up to scratch either. (And I've also noticed a correlation between some surviving papers and senior members of the program committee.)

I must add that this doesn't just apply to researchers. Apparently many engineers, of different flavours, suddenly 'discover' requirements. While they're writing about their practical experiences I'm happy, but when they try to solve the problems of the world without reading *any* of the literature on the subject, I draw the line.
