While noting the tongue in cheek here, it reminds me that some of the worst omissions and distortions of requirements that I've seen have been where the *users* tried to use techo words rather than their own.

And some of the very bad ones occur when the users are scientists and engineers, eg the Hubble SOGS system.

We also need to remember that the users may not use the words consistently.

Example 1 - the military often use the term EXCON (or Exercise Controller). Formally, this is the person who is responsible for the conduct of a military exercise. However, it's also often used to describe the area (eg building) where EXCON sits and those who are working in that area, even though they may not be directly on EXCON's staff. (The distinction between what a commander and her staff do is also somewhat confusing, the staff being usually considered to be an extension of the commander herself.)

Example 2 - ask military people who work with sensors (radars, sonars, EO, EW) about the difference between detection, classification and identification, then stand clear.
