Vision - Our vision is to create and sustain a world-class research environment for developing and nurturing innovation for the NEXT generation IT services and applications, including Internet-enabled business applications, mobile health services, high-end visualization technologies, novel visual information processing architectures and advanced video surveillance systems.

Objective - iNEXT is a world-class research environment for developing and nurturing innovation for the NEXT generation IT services and applications, including Internet-enabled business applications, mobile health services, high-end visualization technologies, novel image processing architectures, and advanced video surveillance systems. On the future Internet, we aim to develop those enabling mechanisms that will allow the transformation of the current connectivity infrastructure into the service infrastructure of the tomorrow's Internet. On the applications and services side, we aim to develop innovative applications with special focus on assistive mobile health and Internet-enabled business applications. On the visual information processing side, we aim to define novel image processing architectures and intelligent recognition algorithms for extracting important information from video streams and sensor networks for surveillance and environmental monitoring purposes. We also focus on high-end visualization technologies for large and complex data. Commercialisation of such applications and services is particularly emphasised. iNEXT includes a significant research training component, graduating many research students in the past years.

Current Research Programs - Over the last 6 years, the iNEXT researchers have been establishing a sustainable multi-disciplinary and high quality research environment. Currently, our research focuses on 5 major programs that are all supported by ARC Discovery, ARC Linkage and other grants:

Laboratories - The iNEXT research centre has five state of the art laboratories for conducting experiments. Academic Staff, PhD and master students use these facilities to build prototypes and conduct experiments:

    mHealth.
    Surveillance.
    Visualisation.
